OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the SIMPL project are:

  • Development and Implementation of Predictive Models: To design, implement, and validate predictive models that will be integrated into the EVJA OPI decision support system (DSS). These models aim to equip farmers with effective tools for monitoring and preventing the onset of pathogens such as downy mildew and powdery mildew.

  • Leveraging Advanced Technologies: To utilize smart sensors and early warning systems to monitor environmental parameters and disease development in real-time, improving the ability to predict and manage crop epidemics through an artificial intelligence-driven system.

  • Eco-friendly Control Solutions: To research and apply environmentally friendly biological and chemical control methods that minimize pesticide use and promote sustainable crop management practices.

  • Development of Artificial Intelligence Systems: To create predictive artificial intelligence systems that can significantly enhance production quality while reducing management costs.

  • A Multidisciplinary Approach: To integrate scientific research, technological innovation, and sustainable practices to boost the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and ensure the production of safe, high-quality food.

Specific objectives of the European Green Deal implemented:

  1. Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection: To reduce the use of chemical pesticides and promote farming methods that preserve the biodiversity of agricultural ecosystems.

  2. Transition to Sustainable Agriculture: To develop environmentally-friendly farming practices that reduce pollution and minimize the use of harmful chemicals.

  3. Circular Economy and Climate Resilience: To implement technologies and approaches that increase crop resilience to climate change and reduce resource waste.

  4. Technological Innovation for Sustainability: To use artificial intelligence and IoT technologies to optimize resource use and minimize the environmental impact of agriculture.

  5. Food Safety and Product Quality: To ensure high-quality, safe, and nutritious agricultural production through innovative and sustainable approaches.

These objectives aim to reduce the incidence and spread of downy mildew and powdery mildew in tomato crops, while promoting more sustainable and efficient farming practices.
